This famous nickname has its origins in horse racing - a reference to the fact that horses are often fed these. Created by reporter John J Fitz Gerald, he used it to denote the importance of the races held in this city. Another story goes that it derives from the name of a well-known brothel in this city whose madam was called Eve, though this is now largely considered a hoax. Which city and nickname?
